I use US crochet terms throughout my patterns. However, it is easy to convert them to UK terms – simply refer to the chart below and substitute the stitches accordingly.

Hello! Your Walter bear is awesome!! I can’t download it though, and there are no balconies of the relevant Knit crochet magazine, and whilst its listed in their patterns, there is no link to download from their online site either 😭 I’m in the Facebook group called UK Crochet and there are a number of us desperately wanting the pattern. Hi Heather, I would have suggested trying to get hold of back copies (balconies lol) but as they’ve run out there’s not much more I can do for a contractual period of two years from date of print, when I will be able to make the pattern available in my own shops/website. So sorry, but If you are patient I will be sure to let you know when Walter makes his non- LGC magazine debut! I have a Huggy Bear pattern on Ravelry/Etsy that would work well with stripes. Not quite the same, I know, but he’s also easy to make like Walter.

Sorry Angie but I don’t have any pictures other than those that are in the pattern. I would suggest that YouTube is a great place to start. There are lots of ‘how to’ videos on there for amigurumi. The basic technique is the same for all amigurumi, including my owls so that should help you.

Freddie Mercury!!! Wow Queen is one of my two favorite bands after listening to their music and crocheting all day yesterday I find a Freddie pattern I can’t wait to make it just finished Wesley yesterday thanks so much my other favorite band is Judas Priest how about a Rob Halford pattern?

Thanks Bonnie! The invdec (invisible decrease) is done like this:
[Insert hook into front loop only of first stitch, do not wrap yarn, insert hook into front loop only of next stitch. You will now have a total of three loops on your hook. Wrap your yarn around hook and pull through both of the 2 front loops on the hook, wrap yarn around hook again and pull through last 2 loops on hook].
I hope that makes sense, it is such a neat way to decrease and eliminates the bumps and holes you get with the normal sc2tog (single crochet 2 together) method.

I love the bb dolls I made one but mine came a lot more then 6″. I used a # 2 needle and cotton yarn. Do I use yarn or cotton thread?

Hi Bonnie, I use regular DK (double knit weight / 8 ply) acrylic yarn rather than crochet thread. I love the softness and stretch of acrylics and the choice of colours is fabulous. If you are in the states you may find worsted weight yarn easier to get hold of, it’s a bit thicker than our UK dk weight but up the hook size to a 3.25 mm hook and they should work out fine (though your amigurumi will be a bit bigger than stated in the pattern). Alternatively, if you want smaller amigurumi you could try sportweight (4 ply) yarn and a 2 mm hook. hope that helps!

It’s all done in spirals, no joining of rounds necessary as the work is not turned at the end of each round 🙂

Hello! I am looking for the pattern for the elves from issue 64. It’s on your Ravelry page, but when I click on it, it takes me to “Topcrochetpatterns.com” which won’t let me download..keeps saying your not activated. Anyway, I have been trying for two years to get that pattern to make for my kids. Please help! I will buy it! I will buy issue 64! No one will sell it to me. The magazine will not ship to the U.S. People selling their copies won’t ship to the US either. Any help in obtaining either the elf pattern or issue 64 would be so appreciated.

HI Jean, The elves pattern was commissioned for a UK magazine. They run the website at Top Crochet Patterns and as such I have no control over how to access it. I am trying to work the Walter bear pattern and his head keeps coming out like the shape of a football. What could I be doing wrong? I am following the pattern to a “t”. Is there a video tutorial for that pattern?

I’m not sure what is happening with Walter’s head but here are a few thoughts. Are you using UK double crochets (which are equivalent to US single crochets)? The terminology differs between the two countries. The head is quite round, though it has a pointy nose. Some of the shaping comes from the length of yarn that is threaded under the eyes and tied under the head. I don’t have access to that version of the free pattern as it was made for a UK magazine and isn’t currently within my control so I’m not sure if you have the appropriate diagrams that explain this part. Let me know if not and I will see if I can find you a picture.

Hi, I bought one of your lovely patterns, the easter treat bag, and I am having a little trouble with it. The base seems quite small to me 8 rows worked up to only 6 1/2 inches across. Is this right or have I gone wrong somewhere? Please help

That’s about the right size, Tan. The whole bag measures around 8″ tall (I think it states the final measurement at the beginning of the pattern. I just measured my bunny face bag and it is 6″ across the bottom. It’s more of a clutch bag rather than a shoulder tote. Sounds like you’re on the right track to me 🙂

Hi Polly, the pattern is no longer available for free from the magazine I designed it for as the two year licence period is now up and all rights have reverted back to me. I will be tweaking the pattern slightly and listing it for sale in my Ravelry shop soon 😊
